和 Intel, Motorola 以及其它大型技术公司一样，Google 一直有意投资一些新的领域，然而从未真正展开过，Wall Street Journal 的一篇报道称，Google 的新投资正在筹备中。投资项目的负责人为 Google 的高级副总裁 David Drummond，Google 还聘请了 William Maris 负责启动该项目。Maris 2005 年曾和 Google 创始人之一 Sergey Brin 的妻子 Anne Wojcicki 一起为一个健康投资基金工作。
